River dozed silently on the bare wood, high in the air above what had once held the huge, noisey horses. Where she lay there had once been piles of stiff, sharp-ended hay. In the barn there had once been the sharp, warm smell of wheat and corn and other little things. While all these things were gone, the large quiet place was filled with the smell of nice plump mice and often the soft scuttling of them looking for food. While River had grown up with all this, she couldn't help but drift awake by her hunger and the warm scents. She padded swiftly on the very edge of the high platform, placing one paw carefully in front of the other. Finally she leaped down quietly and spotted a large plump mouse in the wooden doorway. She pounced after it playfully at first, making it dodge away in fear. Finally she dashed after it and skillfully placed her paws over the the mouse as she leaped, killing it instantly. She took it outside in the warm sunhigh air and lay down, eating slowly and contently. "My, it sure is quiet today," she murmured to herself, standing up to stretch. She looked around slowly and suddenly felt lonely.

Feather yawned softly, raising her head from the bed of hay she was sleeping on. "You got that right." she mumbled, curling her tail around herself. Just wanting to sleep right about now. "Why don't you just go back to sleep," she mumbled. "The twolegs could always come in and feed you." She let out another yawn, her jaws stretching wide as she just rolled over onto her other side, curling up into a ball. "The twolegs could take care of either one of us, besides, they bring food every once in awhile." she continued to go on. See, I could be a kittypet right now, if it wasn't the problem of the mice in the barn, she thought, giving her head a small shake. She let out a small mutter, feeling the black collar on her neck rub against her skin uncomfortably. Feather shook her head, the collar just staying in place. It's too tight... she thought, trying to use one of her paws to slip it off her neck. Well, that didn't work. She let out a small mutter and curled her tail around herself again, shaking her head, trying to become comfortable with her collar being on tight.

River snorted at Feather's reply. "Do I look like a kittypet, now? I mean, I'm not even here very much," she mewed, lifting her chin. "I'll bet they hardly know I'm alive anymore. And I'm glad." She trotted around the barn, nosing around and spooking mice off in all directions. She wrinkled her nose, still hungry, though she did not want another mouse; she was sick of the little skittery things. "I'm going out to find.... a rabbit. Maybe a bird. I'm not sure. Wanna come?" she mewed, eyes lighting up as she padded back to the tall doorway.

Feather shook her head. "No thanks, I'm going to wait for the twolegs to feed me instead. Too much work if you ask me." she mumbled, closing her eyes. "Then maybe they will loosen up the collar a bit." she mewed softly. "Besides, tuna tastes way better than that prey stuff you can catch." she mumbled, continuing on again about how it was better to be a kittypet. "Besides, you have an easier life as a kittypet, so what's the point of risking your life every day over a rabbit or two?" She inquired curiously, opening one eye to watch the other feline quietly.

River blinked slowly, looking curiously at Feather. "But don't you want a little adventure in life? Don't you want a reason to wake up every day? I mean, if you're just gunna sit there all day waiting for the twolegs, you may as well sleep all day!" she meowed with exasperation, eyeing her. "Well, you do sleep a lot anyway." She gave a sniff and trotted outside, tail high as she scented the air. She was overwhelmed by mouse smell, but managed to pick out rabbit and slinked after it, constantly sniffing. She spotted it, finally, and dashed after it in an instant, darting around to block it from the occasional holes. Finally, she lunged and leaped, landing square on it's back and mipping it's neck to kill it. She trotted back to the barn, foolish that it had taken her so long to get it; but then, rabbits weren't really her strength. She was a better fisher, and of course, an expert at hunting mouse.

Feather twitched her ears, thinking of her reply for a moment. "A little adventure in life..." she echoed quietly. "A reason to wake up every day..." She blinked, taking a moment before the thought sunk in. I never wanted an adventure in life... she commented silently. "But what kind of adventure can you get out of going to the forest? Besides just catching a mouse..." she murmured. "But...letting twolegs take care of you would be much safer...I'd rather not risk my life. It's dangerous out there. Wet and cold...while it's warm and dry in here. So what's the point of wanting to run around out there?" she mewed. "I'd rather let the twolegs keep me well fed. And in the forest you might starve to death...that sounds scary." She mewed and raised her head, blinking again. "Besides, River, would you ever want to risk your life out there? I hear there are wild cats out there! And from what I've heard they are all mean and cruel! They would eat a cat like you or me in no time!" Her eyes grew slightly wider at the thought, her tail twitching back and forth now.

River shook her head. "I've been traveling all my life, Feather! I'm not dead yet, am I? Yeah, I've come across wild cats, but that's what we- err, I am, anyway. Knowing that you're taking a risk is the best! You can't stop and think about it, not even before starting the adventure, you have to just jump right in whiskers first!" she mewed, ears perking up as she thought of her travels. "Why, you can just learn by going out there what not to do, and you have to... well, you follow the wind and let it take you wherever." She scraped the broad wooden floor in frustration as she tried to get Feather to understand. She's so soft! She won't even try! River thought, lashing her tail.

"But it seems sort of foolish to jump whisker-first into something...with out thought. That could get you killed in a heart beat," Feather mewed, shaking her head. "Don't you think so? And wildcats sound just scary...I bet they would eat me and use my bones to sharpen their claws. Why even go? It's not like the twolegs would neglect you..." She mewed. "But, how can you learn by just going out there and not knowing what to do at first...that sounds really dangerous. Don't you think, River? You could die in a split second by not thinking...if you just 'follow the wind' you could wander into traffic and get killed..." She mewed, flinching slightly when she saw River's tail start to lash.

River rolled her eyes at Feather's softness. "Well, that's the fun of it! You never know what's going to happen next, but you can be sure it'll be exciting. And the wildcats won't eat you, you just have to stay out of their territory," she meowed. "And you learn so much, go so many different places! Besides, I try and avoid thunderpaths, and when I do have to cross them I'm careful so I won't get killed by a stupid smelly monster, that's for sure," she sniffed, standing slowly to head for the doorway once more. "Come outside, at least, you can't live your whole life isolated int his musty stupid barn, Feather." With that, she darted outside down an old twoleg trail to a small meadow, hoping she could show Feather a few things.

Feather twitched her ears, shifting onto her paws before standing. "How could it be fun to not know what's coming up...what if it's bad...such as getting attacked...that wouldn't be exciting, just terrifying..." she mewed, following after River. After a moment of hesitation, of course. "And what's wrong with the barn? It's just fine to me...it's nice, warm, and dry. Besides, there will always be plenty to eat in there...and it's safe," she mewed. "But I might go and live inside with the twolegs...it's just easier. And then I could sleep on a pillow...instead of the hay..." she mewed softly. "I still don't see what's with you and wanting to be running into danger all the time. It's more like being foolish and risking death..."

"Just come on!" she mewed, running back to nudge Feather forward. "And you're too soft, you need to learn about what's outside." She pushed Feather into a lush meadow, covered with soft green grass and a small stream gently curving through. A large butterfly swooped low down, and River jumped and twisted up after it, clapping her paws together after it each time. When it flew way up, she lay down in the middlw of the meadow, rolling around invitedly. "Come on, Feather, just have fun! There's nothing dangerouse here, I promise!" she purred, scampering around like a little kit, tripping and tumbling about.

"I don't need to learn what's outside if I'll never do anything with that knowledge," Feather meowed, tail twitching again. "I don't see anything fun with a meadow, really..." She mewed, padding over to a flower and sniffing it quietly. It's so peacefull...I won't be surprised if a wildcat comes and ruins the fun...then tries to kill us...and then sharpens their claws with our bones... she thought, looking over her shoulder for a moment or two. "You sure there isn't anyone following us...or anyone around?" she mewed softly, sniffing the air. "Do wildcats come here often...?" She asked, trotting for the taller grass, still sniffing the air as if she expected an attack.

River smiled, giggling softly. "No, never. I don't think they care for this meadow," she purred, stalking playfully toward Feather.
...And out jumps Weasle! He attacks Feather and eats her and sharpens his claws with her bones and lunges for River... []
She pounced lightly, but landed to the side of her and rolled on her back, kicking up lazily as she gazed at the soft blue sky. She swatted a forepaw at Feather, reaching for her leg to make her fall as well. "Just... enjoy yourself! Sure, I know a few cats who have came around here but otherwise it's kinda secret... and those cats are nice anyhow." She flipped up on her paws again and splashed into the stream, relived by the cool water. She gestured of Feather to jump in as well; after all, it was only water.

ooc// XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
bic// Feather let out an alarmed squeak, falling next to her, her back landing against the ground first. "How can I enjoy myself outside of my comfort zone...it's safer in the barn...I should go back soon..." she mewed, shifting and standing again before looking over her shoulder again. She trotted over to the stream, crouching low to the ground and sniffing the water for a moment before actually attempting to take a drink. She wrinkled her nose slightly, raising her head again. "It's a tad bit too cold..." she mewed, standing and taking a step back. "You sure it's safe to drink...?"

River sighed, and playfully swatted out a paw to splash Feather. "Of course it's safe! You can't enjoy yourself if you're too paranoid. I promise, there is nothing bad, wrong, or scary about this meadow. It is 100% safe," she purred, rolling her eyes as she romped to the other side of the stream. She clawed at the soft, cool grass and bounded about, tripping over herself and tumbling back to the stream's shore. Her eyes glittered playfully, clearly asking Feather to have fun and just enjoy herself. She rolled over and drank from the cool stream, shaking the water from her whiskers.
